Yorkshire’s Newest Wedding Venue raises £1400 for the Encephalitis Society

The Talbot Hotel in Malton has unveiled its much-anticipated latest venture: York House, a remarkable new event venue in a 300 year-old landmark Malton building. It has been carefully restored after 20 years of disuse and now its original stone flooring and impressive oak staircase provide a beautiful backdrop for weddings and events in this popular market town.

The Talbot has a long-standing relationship with the chosen charity, The Encephalitis Society, and so it was a natural choice to use the opening night of York House for an event to raise funds for the Society.  York House and its new semi-permanent marquee were unveiled at a glamorous party on Friday 21st April 2017.

David Macdonald, General Manager of the Talbot Hotel commented:

“It was a such a pleasure to see York House being enjoyed by our guests. From a business point of view, the new venue will allow the hotel to now cater for weddings for up to 150 guests. A recent survey showed that over 75% of weddings now have 100 guests plus and the combined hotel facilities allow us to now say ‘yes’ to larger events.”

Dr Ava Easton, Chief Executive of The Encephalitis Society, said:

It was a wonderful night a great setting with great food and great company. As the Talbot Hotels chosen charity partner, we were delighted by the generosity of the guests at York House who helped to raise £1,400 towards our vital work providing support to individuals and families living with encephalitis, which is inflammation of the brain.”

The estate has further plans for improvement, as part of a multi-million pound investment in Malton, including construction of a permanent banqueting hall in the space between the Talbot Hotel and York House. Eight new hotel bedrooms on the first and second floors of York House will follow.
