Review From a Best Loved Prize Winner: The Five Arrows Hotel
Thank you again for the wonderful prize of winning a 2-night stay at the above hotel. Myself and my friend Mary stayed at the place on the evenings of the 15th and 16th June and were absolutely delighted with the venue (facilities and staff).
On arrival the reception staff member was most welcoming and helpful and they had all the paperwork ready for us. We were given the key to our room, which was room No. 15 and named “Escudo Rojo” after a Rothschild wine, which was located in the converted stable block. The room was located on the first floor, was beautifully appointed, and had the lovely finishing touch of “homemade” cookies in a glass kilner style jar to accompany the complimentary tea, coffee, milk and sugar sachets and bottles of English spa water (1 bottle each of sparkling and still). The room was en-suite and we had very comfortable twin beds (as per our request), towels, shower gel etc, etc all provided and also a free standing fan, which was most welcomed as the weather was quite humid at the time!
We had our evening meal on the first night of arrival and although too full to try out all three-courses, we could have done if we’d wanted to. The menu selection was good and the food was excellent – both presentation and taste was spot on. The waiting staff were also excellent; pleasant and friendly. We ordered a bottle of wine with the meal (expecting to pay for it) and found, when we checked out on the Friday morning that there was no charge for it – that too was complimentary.
The breakfast selection was also excellent, both in range and quality and again, excellent serving staff; friendly and courteous.
The location was lovely as were the buildings – on approach to the front of the hotel, the wood framing (style of the place) made it look as if it was a little “old” – however I can definitely say that there was nothing old, or dated inside the building or any other sides of the building(s) .. a very well maintained and presented hotel and grounds.
We had the option of complimentary “grounds” admissions tickets to the Waddesdon Manor (built by the Rothschild family about 5 generations ago), which is now a National Trust property – fortunately Mary and I had NT membership cards, so we didn’t take up the complimentary grounds access tickets as we visited the manor etc using our NT cards. It’s a great place to visit and I would recommend taking the time to do so if staying at The Five Arrows Hotel.
Blenheim Palace wasn’t a million miles away from The Five Arrows Hotel, so we visited there as well (that’s not NT) and we also spent an afternoon in Oxford. Judging by the road signs near the Hotel, it’s quite a good spot from which to reach quite a few well known places /areas.
I’d highly recommend The Five Arrows Hotel – it’s a great place to stay.
If you’d like any further information “feedback” from my “winners visit”, please don’t hesitate to ask me, I’d be happy to respond.
Best wishes,
Sarah
PS I forgot to mention that The Five Arrows Hotel has a lovely theme of relating the origin of its build (Baron Rothschild in 1877 I think) to the Rothschild famous wines; lovely wine label prints on the walls, bedrooms named after wines and lovely “corks” big enough that the could be small stools to sit on etc … makes it all that little bit more special.
