Le tour de France – The Grand Depart Series: Stage 2

In the second stage of the race, riders will leave from the historically renowned city, York, and travel through 200km of tricky road, passing through Goldsborough for its destination Sheffield. York is renowned for its stunning cathedral, exquisite architecture as well as quaint paved roads. However, it is a city full of discoveries and contrasts, from the stylish cafes and lively street entertainers, to the spectacular architecture and well preserved ruins. You can discover something new about the city at every turn.

As you wait for the race to pass through, why not stay with best loved hotels? We have a selection of best loved hotels en route which will provide you with an amazing viewing spot to watch the riders cycling through Yorkshire. Located near Leeds, York and Harrogate, Goldsborough Hall has one of the best locations to view the race. Ever wondered how the royal family lived? Well now you can experience it all at the former residence of Princess Mary (The Queen’s later aunt) and her husband the Earl of Harewood. This exquisite 17th century stately mansion kept its ancient history with its regal furnishing but the newly adapted modern amenities will guarantee the luxury both you and the Princess deserve. Guests are also invited to experience a royal dinner cooked with fresh locally grown ingredients while admiring the cheery blossom orchard given by the Emperor of Japan. Goldsborough Hall is now offering a two night stay in a Royal Princess’s home on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th July from £500 (min 2 night stay, DBB). Call 01423 867321, email info@goldsboroughhall.com or click Goldsborough Hall  for more info.

The final destination for the second stage of Le Tour de France is the lively city Sheffield. Originally known for its largely industrial roots, the city has grown into one full of laughter, music, sports and most importantly, trees. Sheffield is known as one of the greenest cities in Europe and it is home to more than 2 million trees or 5,500 plant species. If you think that’s all Sheffield has to offer then think again. The city is also the birthplace of many rock bands such as Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, ABC and The Human League. The list doesn’t end here; there is much more to explore about Sheffield and why not stay at one of our best loved hotels while doing so.

If you are looking for a romantic getaway or a relaxing holiday to emerge yourself into a 16th century elegant escape, Whitley Hall is the perfect option for you. This graceful mansion and wooded estate lies within the heart of Yorkshire and is only 30 minutes away from Chatsworth House. The estate itself is surrounded by gorgeous oak trees, lakes with peacocks, Canadian geese, mallards and more. The stylish yet antique mansion offers rooms from Bridal Suite to antique four-poster bedroom with Jacuzzi to deluxe bedrooms with Juliet balconies and soothing lake vistas. This Sheffield mansion will truly be the icing on the cake for your relaxing holiday.
