Now managed by the National Trust, Stonehenge was designated as a World Heritage Site in 1986 for the outstanding prehistorically monument. The site itself was believed to be built around 3100 B.C. with enormous rock slabs brought from as far as Preseli Hills in Wales.

Standing for thousands of years, all the weathering, settling and stone pilfering had left the Stonehenge complex in considerable disarray. As a result, the Stonehenge we see today is result of restorations conducted between 1901 and 1964 to stabilise leaning uprights and replace fallen stones.

The Stonehenge World Heritage site sprawls over 10 square miles, including avenues, settlements, burial grounds and other sites designed to blend into the landscape design. Within the 2,100 acres of land where the monument is located, relax your eyes by looking over fields of endless grassland. Top tip: For a stunning view, watch the sun rise over the north-east horizon near the Heel Stone or sun set in the south-west, in between the two tallest trilithons.
