Britain’s Best Getaways: Jersey

We can’t stop talking about Jersey, one of the beautiful Channel Islands. There is so much more to explore on this stunning island – other than the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, which we covered in a previous blog. Longer holidays, or short breaks; Jersey has it all for every type of holiday and tourist! In this blog we will take you on a journey through unspoiled landscapes, French influences, rich history and beautiful coastlines.

The British Channel Island Jersey’s blend of British and French influences make it a unique island and the island lies, in fact, much closer to France than Britain. The view of the dominating landscape or rather seascape, the Atlantic Ocean, is absolutely stunning. The island’s scenery overall is amazing, with its sandy beaches, rocky coves, majestic cliffs and exposed bays. You can find the island’s natural beauty everywhere!

When on a longer holiday in Jersey, try to explore a bigger part of the relatively small island, as Jersey is full of beautiful spots and well known landmarks. For example, Les Écréhous & Les Dirouilles; these extensive rocky intertidal areas of warm waters lie in the east of Jersey and host a large marine wildlife. The South East Coast; the coast includes extensive areas of reef and kilometres of wave cut platforms. The Minquiers; this group of islands forms part of the Bailiwich of Jersy and lies 9 miles south of Jersey and Sorel Point, which is the most northerly part of the island and offers a breath-taking scenery of Paternoster Reef to the isle of Sark.

As there is a variety of terrain, the island is ideally suited for exploring on foot and bike. Prefer to explore the island at the hand of local tour operators? No worries, there are plenty of tours and trips to take, from day trips and boat trips to train tours and tourist guides. Also, shopping is a good alternative when the weather is less favourable. We recommend the island’s capital St Helier, which combines city fashions with the great village charm. Another very entertaining activity during the colder months includes a spa day, where you can unwind and get spoilt! The nearby Les Roches Spa is highly recommended for those seeking the ultimate in rejuvenation.
